The Far Away Sun

A story delving into the delicate dance between man and monster in one's self.

Awarded an ‘Arts Council Ireland Project Award’ to write a new one-man play taking inspiration from 'Lord of the Flies' — under the mentorship of Michael West, 2023. Katie took writing residency in the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and 'A Little Room', Waterford's Theatre Development Centre — working with Laura Honan (Dramaturge), Rachel Ní Bhraonáin (Movement Director), Dr. Mark Rowe (Consultant) and Colin Campbell (Actor). In 2025, the project took residency in Dublin Theatre Festival's Slingshot, where the team experimented with binaural technology in collaboration with Carl Kennedy (Sound Designer), and co-directed by Katie and Luke Kernaghan (Director).

Katie's aim as a maker is to bridge the gap between spectator and performer by considering an audiences sensory systems, alongside dramaturgical focus on sound — creating a sensorial pull between memory, imagination and reality in the mind of a monster.
